VERONICA GALLEGO

About Me

Veronica Gallego Fleites.

My two last names and thick accent let everyone know that I am not from around here. I was born and raised in Cuba for the first 16 years of my life.

Almost 5 years ago, my parents immigrated to the United States, all in hopes that my sister and I would have a better quality of life, a better education, a better future.

While pursuing a career in the creative industry is a risky approach to this goal, I am nothing if not obsessed with the arts.

Most of my family specializes in science and mathematics, but they all have a common luster for culture and high entertainment. They frequently invited me to anything from classic ballet performances to modern art exhibits.

I spent my early years meeting my father's polymath expectations. Becoming a good student was not enough, so I participated in an array of extracurricular activities:

English, Creative Writing, Visual Arts, Acting, Spanish dancing, Guitar, Tennis... All of them lasted at least a year, with an emphasis on English and Visual Arts.

I managed to transfer my school credits after moving to the United States, and attended SPCC with the goal of transferring to a four-year institution. My competence in the arts has greatly increased ever since.

I recently got accepted to the University of North Carolina in Charlotte, which I chose because of their Digital Media concentration within the Bachelor's in Fine Arts program.

University is the finish line I've been running towards for most of my life; it is the quintessential bridge between high education and an achingly desired career in the arts.
